Online 8-string guitar tuner
F♯ B E A D G B E standard, Drop E and E standard. The detector listens down to 28 Hz for the low F♯.
How to use it
- Tap Enable microphone and allow access. Audio is analysed on your device and never leaves the page.
- Pick the instrument and tuning (it opens in 8-string guitar standard). Play one string at a time.
- The needle shows how far you are in cents. Tighten the string if it reads low, loosen if it reads high, and stop when the dial turns green.
- Hold a string circle to hear its reference note if you prefer to tune by ear.
What makes this one different
Most browser tuners run a simple autocorrelation and give up on quiet or low strings. This page runs the McLeod pitch method with octave candidates, a band-limit filter and the same stability and hysteresis rules as the TuneGlass iPhone app, which was calibrated on an unplugged electric guitar. Low strings on bass and 8-string get a longer analysis window automatically.
Two things a browser cannot match: the app uses the iPhone's microphone in measurement mode with no processing, and it has haptics, Precision mode and a tuning editor for any custom tuning. The app is coming to the App Store; this page is the same engine, free, in the meantime.

Questions
Does the tuner record me?
No. The microphone stream is analysed in your browser with the Web Audio API and discarded. Nothing is uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.
It says the microphone is blocked.
Your browser has denied microphone access for this site. Open the site settings (the lock icon in the address bar), allow the microphone, and reload. On iOS, Safari asks each time you press the button.
Why does it read my low string an octave high?
A plucked low string is mostly overtones for the first moment. Pluck once, moderately, over the neck, and let it ring; the detector locks onto the fundamental within a few frames. Choose the right instrument so the long window is on for bass and 8-string.
Is it accurate?
To well under a cent on a clean signal. The limiting factors are room noise and the laptop or phone microphone, not the maths.
